Laboratory of Plant Genetic Engineering

Based on the platform of low energy ion beam facility, NIR (Near Infrared Reflection) and LIBS (Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy) combined with modern molecular biology, our research focus on interaction mechanism between low energy ion beam and plant, mutant creation as well as high through-out screening technology for crop and woody energy plant to faciliate their genetic improvement.

The related work has been supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China, 863 projects, the Strategic Priority Research Program, Key Innovative Project of Chinese Academy of Sciences and 100 Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. More than 40 articles have been published. Over 20 students got their master or doctor degrees here.

Research Progress and achievements
We have obtained significant progress on low energy ion beam mutation mechanism on plant. Based on our research, more than 40 crop varieties were developed and applied in agriculture. Environmentally friendly fertilizer were also generated in this lab and applied in crop production. More than 10% of yield was obtained after the fertilizer application.
